5 tips to plan an amazing beach day with your dog

Summer is all about spending time in nature and if you and your pup are beach bums, you know that a successful beach outing requires some preparation. Once you’ve selected a dog-friendly beach destination, there are just a few extra steps that will ensure that you have a relaxing day with your four legged friend.
1. Find some shade
The sun can be very exhausting and dangerous for both humans as well as dogs - especially if they're not used to hot climate or have never been exposed to it before! Make sure to bring along an umbrella or a tent so that both of you are protected against overheating. Don’t forget a beach blanket or a towel so that your pup has a comfortable spot to lay down.
2. Keep the dog safe in the water
While some dogs are born with amazing swimming skills, others don’t cope with it too well. Remember to take it slowly at first and see how comfortable your dog is in the water. You might consider a dog life vest so that you can relax knowing the pup is protected. Only choose places where the water is calm, avoiding big waves and places that are packed with boats and jet skiers.
3. Use sun protection
Sunscreen for dogs or protective clothing designed for beach days come in particularly handy here. Focus on protecting the dog’s nose and ears that are particularly sensitive. The general rule of limiting sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. applies to pets as well as humans. Just like us, our four legged friends are also at risk of skin cancer.
4. Pack plenty of water, some food and treats
Both you and your dog need to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration. And don’t forget your dog’s favorite treats to reward him for being such a great beach buddy!
5. End the day with a good rinse
Although salt water and sand are generally safe for your pup, you should always rinse their coat with fresh water at the end of a beach day to prevent any skin irritation and itchiness.
And there you have it! Everything you need to know to make your beach day with your dog as smooth and stress-free as possible.
